What is EPL?

EPL stands for Elastic, Plastic and Lasting!

Elastic - EPL stretches with the wood.

Plastic - The EPL resilient coating forms a safe, clear, glossy finish that prevents any direct contact with wood preservatives or splinters. Resists the tannins that are found in cedar and redwood.

Lasting - EPL deposits a tough high molecular weight layer of polymer on your wood. The higher the molecular weight the stronger the layer.

These three features will change the way you view outdoor wood.

EPL is a translucent liquid that dries to your choice of a clear coating or a coating with honey or chocolate tints (see our colors page to view available wood coating colors).  Also, check out our new colors page to see the two new colors we added to our collection.

Clear EPL will preserve the natural look of your outdoor wood. The tinted versions of Honey or Chocolate can be used to create a more cohesive appearance for an aged and weathered deck.

EPL's technology comes from the vinyl flooring industry that has spent millions on research and development of flexible wear layers. Its key property of being able to expand and contract opens the door to a useable topcoat for outdoor wood. Other topcoats for outdoor wood have failed, but EPL is the ultimate answer to this long lasting problem.

Sealers and stains consist of oils and pigments that soak into the wood. Paints consist of binder and pigment that lay on the surface of the wood. EPL is a cross between these extremes that will absorb deep into the wood while leaving a significant plastic protection on the surface.

Wear layers in vinyl floors vary from 1 year wear ratings to over 15 year wear ratings. EPL will wear the amount of years that you desire by the number of coatings you choose to apply. It's that easy!
